Chris is a leading Australian crime fiction novelist and author of international bestsellers Scrublands and Silver. Before turning to fiction, Chris had an impressive resume as a journalist for more than thirty years. He reported from more than 30 countries on six continents for SBS TV. In Canberra his roles included chief political correspondent for The Bulletin, senior writer for The Age and Online Political Editor for The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.
His first book in 2010 was the first of two non-fiction travel guides. The River, was critically acclaimed and the recipient of the ACT Book of the Year Award and was shortlisted for the Walkley Book Award and the Manning Clark House National Cultural Award.
Chris has just released his 3rd fiction novel Trust in October 2020. His previous books have sold over 285,000 copies worldwide and have been twice shortlisted for the ABIA General Fiction Book of the Year.
Scrublands came along in 2018 and was an instant bestseller, topping the Australian fiction charts. It was shortlisted for Best Debut Fiction at the Indie Book Awards, shortlisted for Best General Fiction at the Australian Book Industry Awards, shortlisted for the UTS Glenda Adams Award for New Writing at the NSW Premier's Literary Awards and won the UK Crime Writers' Association John Creasey Debut Dagger Award.
His second novel, Silver, was published in 2019 and was shortlisted for Best General Fiction at the Australian Book Industry Awards, shortlisted for the 2020 ABA Booksellers' Choice Book of the Year Award, and longlisted for the UK Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award.
