AND OUR NIGHT SKY
Shellharbour City Libraries and Shellharbour City Council’s Environment team work together to bring our community a monthly Nature Talk event. September's Nature Talk Online was a presentation on ‘Astronomy and our Night Sky’ with amateur astronomer David Finlay.
David delighted us with his beautiful photos and video, and shared tips on astro-photography, while inspiring us to think more about the wonders in the night sky around us, and how we can learn more from our very own backyards.
You can watch the presentation in the video embedded below.
David is a local astronomy expert, and a talented astro-photographer.
He’s an “event astronomer”; so if there is something exciting happening in the night sky David will be there be to film or photograph it! David has seen four total solar eclipses (including one from Antarctica), numerous meteor showers, comets, lightning sprites, and asteroids. He has lost count of the number of times he has seen and photographed the aurora australis from the Kiama region.
David has worked with Curtin and Monash Universities to hunt meteorites, and he has even collaborated with NASA on one of their long-range space balloon projects.
